Bellingham Birth Center

COVID-19 UPDATE:

Despite the increased demand for safe births outside of the hospital during the current crisis, Bellingham Birth Center is still accepting healthy expectant families wishing to transfer care to our facility.

As of March 2021, all of our midwives are fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Every baby who starts their life at our dedicated birth center lightens the load on the portion of our healthcare system dedicated to the ill during this crisis.

In order to be eligible for birth center birth, a client must not have any symptoms of COVID-19.  We are no longer limiting the number of support people that can accompany a laboring person, but with the goal of keeping our facility COVID-free, we do screen support people before entering our birth center and ask that support people wear masks throughout their visit.

We are taking great care to preserve Bellingham Birth Center as a disease-free zone in order to ensure the continued health of our licensed midwives, doulas and families.

Founded in 2004, and with over 1700 births under our roof, Bellingham Birth Center is Whatcom County’s only nationally accredited birth center, having been accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers since 2015.  We are in an easy-to-find location and many of our clients take comfort in how close we are to a hospital.  Bellingham Birth Center is also the longest-standing birth center in Whatcom or Skagit Counties, and the only birth center with 3 separate and fully equipped birth rooms.

Bellingham Birth Center has always been a “community birth center,” striving to advance and support the local midwifery community, so that midwifery care can be accessible and attractive to a diversity of families.

Clients get to choose between the 6 midwifery practices that are privileged at Bellingham Birth Center.  Families see the same midwife throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum.  There is plenty of time during and between visits for a trusting relationship to develop between the client and her midwife.  We provide personalized, nurturing care in a calm, peaceful setting that feels more like a home than a clinic, and yet are able to respond quickly if complications arise.

It is a wonderful option for women having normal pregnancies who live in the Bellingham area, as well as for the outlying areas of Ferndale, Lynden, Blaine, Maple Falls, Glacier, Nooksack, the Lummi Reservation, Lummi Island, and the San Juan Islands.  Apple Health/DSHS and virtually all health insurance plans welcomed.

We are happy to schedule a personal tour with you and also provide free pregnancy tests as needed.  The best way to reach us is by emailing bellinghambirthcenter@gmail.com and we can set up a tour and answer any specific questions you might have.  You can also call us at (360) 752-2229.
